Israeli electioneering 2009: A slideshow
In how many ways can the Israeli political system be facocked? Lots! What fun it was to be in the holy land last week for the general election and see all the shenanigans up close! Holocaust survivors teaming up with pot-smokers, blatant rip-offs of Obama tag lines, and penis references galore!
I hope you enjoy this slideshow of many of the colorful and not so witty political ads fashioned around Tel Aviv prior to the election. Just click here or on the image and select the ’slideshow’ option on the top left.
And remember, at least it’s a facocked democracy and not, say, a functioning dictatorship.

Absurdo,
I enjoyed your highly educational slideshow about the Israeli elections poster campaign. I have to make one correction…
Though Bibi’s campaign was definitely sexist, I don’t think his “memshala yetziva” ad can be accurately translated as “a firm government”. It would be more accurate to translate it as “a stable government”. Thus, I’m not sure if his “I have a big dick” campaign is really expressed on this ad.

Thank you for the comment my friend originally from Canada. (Did you read my piece on Canadian geese? No offense, of course.) Well, according to the Oxford University Eng-Heb/Heb-Eng dictionary (1995 edition), the Hebrew adjective yatziv can mean either stable or firm. Since ‘firm’ makes for the more obvious penis reference, you can see how I arrived at my translation. Though, it must be said, claiming to offer a ’stable’ government when running against a woman – as opposed to a political candidate that would rather pout and gorge on ice cream when the going gets tough – can also be considered sexist.
